Manzanillo

Manzanillo House
Renovation of a traditional brick house in Colonia Roma, Mexico City, located at the entrance of a vecindad, a communal housing complex built in the 19th century. Designed for a couple with two children, the project creates serene, white spaces while preserving the character of the original structure.
An exposed brick party wall runs across the full height and width of the three-story house, contrasting with colorful handcrafted tile floors. The previously unused rooftop is transformed into a new living space, accessed by a discreet spiral staircase embedded in a wall—reminiscent of medieval castle towers—freeing up the main stairwell and maximizing natural overhead light. Three custom-designed copper lamps punctuate the different spaces, adding warmth and continuity to the interior.
