Cougouilles

Villa Cougouilles

Renovation of a centuries-old mas, abandoned for over a hundred years, with construction phases spanning from the 17th to the 19th century. Perched on a promontory, the site overlooks a valley on one side and is framed by distant mountains and cliffs. Designed as both a family home and a guesthouse, the project preserves the essence of the original structure while introducing more open and modern living spaces.

The stone walls and overall volume are retained, while the traditional lauze stone roof is entirely rebuilt. The main level is structured around a welcoming entrance area and a dining space, seamlessly connected to a spacious kitchen—the central hub of the house. A large wooden terrace extends beneath restored stone arches, linking the interiors to the landscape. The living room is designed as a cozy, enclosed retreat.

The master bedroom is located on the upper level, featuring an open-plan bathroom and a large north-facing glass façade framing the landscape. A small wooden terrace extends from this space, creating a private viewpoint within the home. The guest rooms are distributed between an exterior wing and the lower level. An outdoor sauna and jacuzzi serve as a buffer between the family home and the guest quarters, creating a space for relaxation immersed in nature.
